German industryThe employment in the key German manufacturing sector has reached a new peak against the backdrop of the country’s continued economic growth. The number of people working in industrial German companies with more than 50 employees was 5.6 million at the end of June, representing an increase of 2.6% compared to the same month last year, according to preliminary data released today by the German Statistical Office.

The employment in the manufacturing sector is at its highest level since the start of these statistics in January 2005.

Data released yesterday indicate that the largest European economy has grown more than expected in the second quarter – by 0.5% on a quarterly basis.

The highest employment growth – 4.1% – is in electronics and optics production in June.

The number of employees in mechanical engineering has also increased above the average – 3.6%, while in the manufacture of food products and of metal products the growth in employment is 3.2%.

The number of people employed in automotive and automotive production increased by 1.5%.
